Calvin R. Sumner, M.D., Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President of Clinical Development Jim Fitzgerald, Chief Financial Officer
Eric B. Gordon Mr. Gordon has 30+ years of broad managerial experience in the pharmaceutical, vaccine, biotechnology, consumer products industries. Throughout his career, he has developed strategies with profound industry impact and then provided the leadership to execute the plans and fulfill financial and operating objectives. He has taken breakthrough scientific concepts and successfully built the infrastructure, external relationships, and financial resources to advance them through commercialization and rapid growth. In 2004, Mr. Gordon founded BioBDx prior to the exclusive licensing of the Quotient™ ADHD System technology from McLean Hospital and has since been aggressively completing product development and commercialization initiatives. In 1999, Mr. Gordon co-founded and built as CEO, Ardais Corporation, a leading clinical genomics company. Ardais transformed the bio-specimen collection field, enabling precise molecular expression of disease states for genomic-based drug discovery and diagnostics by combining high-quality human disease samples, clinical information and medical outcomes data with articulate data access and management systems. In 1996, Mr. Gordon joined the founders of ArQule, Inc. as CEO and President and built the premier combinatorial chemistry company to enhance drug discovery. He developed the commercialization strategy, completed a $48 million IPO and proceeded to grow annual service revenues in excess of $60 million. Mr. Gordon’s business development activities resulted in 41 pharmaceutical collaborations with a “cash received value” of more than $375 million and initiated the strategic repositioning of the company to a chemistry-based drug discovery company now focused on cancer therapeutics. In 1986, Mr. Gordon joined the founders of Connaught Laboratories, Inc. as VP and CFO and provided the business development, operational, finance, marketing, sales management and leadership to direct the company from a contract manufacturer orientation to a strategic and aggressive pediatric vaccine product development and marketing organization achieving US sales of $325+ million before acquisition by Pasteur-Merieux for $825 million (now Sanofi-Pasteur.) Mr. Gordon, a CPA, holds finance and business administration degrees from Syracuse University and The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
Calvin R. Sumner, M.D. Dr. Sumner brings extensive experience in clinical product development for the treatment of psychiatric and behavioral conditions affecting children, adolescents, and adults. His expertise will be critical in supporting BioBDx as it pursues new indications and prepares for the commercial launch of the Quotient™ ADHD System, the first FDA-cleared diagnostic system to provide objective measures for the symptoms of ADHD. Most recently, Dr. Sumner held senior clinical development positions at Eli Lilly and Co. in the U.S. Medical Division of Lilly Research Laboratories. As a specialist in CNS disorders for Lilly USA and as a Senior Clinical Research Physician, he led Phase IIIB and Phase IV clinical research, strategic planning, and clinical development for Strattera® (atomoxetine HCL) for the treatment of ADHD. Immediately prior to coming to BioBDx, Dr. Sumner held the position of Product Medical Leader for Lilly USA in which he was responsible for medical administration and management of Zyprexa ® (olanzapine HCL), a treatment for bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Dr. Sumner is a licensed child psychiatrist. He completed his residency in psychiatry at George Washington University Medical Center where he obtained his M.D. degree. He holds a Masters degree in Elementary and Special Education from Columbia University where he also obtained a bachelors degree in Biology.
Jim Fitzgerald Mr. Fitzgerald has been a CFO for more than 20 years in the high technology, life sciences/biotechnology, and service sectors. In addition to extensive operational know-how, he has handled numerous mergers and acquisitions, private and public financings, including IPO’s and venture capital investments, SEC compliance and investor responsibilities. In addition to his experience as a senior vice president of finance and operations, he is a CPA with more than eight years of experience as a manager with a Big Four accounting firm. Mr. Fitzgerald most recently was senior vice president and CFO of Rhode Island-based Nephros Therapeutics, Inc., a private biotechnology company developing human cell bio-replacement systems. Earlier, he served as CFO for ArQule, Inc., a chemistry-focused drug discovery company, where he was responsible for managing the company’s IPO and follow-on offering and oversaw a number of corporate alliances which combined raised in excess of $375 million. He completed an earlier IPO at Amicon Corporation and subsequently directed its merger with and integration into W R Grace. Mr. Fitzgerald earned his bachelor’s degree in economics and an MBA from Northeastern University and later completed an executive program in corporate financial management at the Harvard Business School. He is a CPA in Massachusetts and is a member of Financial Executives International. |
